I'm participating in my first blog hop. What I great way to celebrate Valentine's Day! First off, a group of Indie authors are raffling off a bunch of books. See the links below to enter. We are also each sharing our favorite indie books or reviewing an Indie book. I'm new to the scene, having just released my first children's picture ebook, so I haven't had that much exposure to children's ebooks yet. However, I have found one that I liked, so it's the one that I chose to review here.
When Grammy Goes Away, by Flo Barnett, is a children's picture book that explains the passing away of grandmas to children. The rhymes flow smoothly and aren't forced. The story is cute and endearing and explains death to children in a way that is positive and comforting. It ends on an inspirational note. The illustrations are expressive, colorful, and with dynamic compositions. The only issue I have, which is hard to resolve, is that it is told in the male perspective, and I feel girls can't relate to it as easily because of that.
Of course, this is a very specialized book and I only would recommend it for children dealing with the passing of a grandma, but Flo has other books in this series that also look like they are also good. Flo Barnett worked in the childcare and education industries before retiring. Please support indie authors!
Check out the links below to the other authors participating in the blog hop. They will have reviews of other indie books as well. I am giving away a print edition of Bubba the Bulldog Tries to Smile in the giveaway link directly below. Thank you for your support of authors who are doing it their way!
