In class, we have a stuffed animal Bubba that many of the children play with very often, if not daily. One of the children, who I call "Bubba's Number One Fan," has asked me several times if Bubba was real and if he could meet him. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Bubba is in doggy heaven, so I told him that I would try and see if Bubba was allowed to come to class. We got the visit approved, but decided to tell the children that Bubba lived too far away and that Bubba's friend was coming.
The children were very excited to be able to have a dog come to their class, especially a bulldog. I took the opportunity to teach the children dog safety before the visit. I think that it was also a unique opportunity to connect story to reality and for them to see a story they love come to life. The visit also opened up a conversation about pets and during grouptime the children were asked to tell us who their pets were. We discovered almost all of the children have dogs!
Thank you Jager for coming to visit our class! He was a very good boy and so patient to come and meet almost 25 children in 2 days!
